Attorney Christopher Porter joined the Forrest Firm’s Durham office in August of 2018, after spending more than two decades working in venture capital, technology, and life sciences companies. In his of-counsel role at the Forrest Firm, Mr. Porter provides strategic counsel to companies, with focus areas including strategic transactions, mergers and acquisitions, licensing and business development, and governance. Chris has transaction experience valued in excess of $500M, and hands-on domestic and international corporate experience in contracts, securities, employment law, litigation, and regulatory compliance.
Mr. Porter began his career in 1992 as a sales representative for GlaxoSmithKline prior to attending business school and law school at the University of North Carolina. Upon graduation from UNC in 1998, he joined Triangle-area venture capital firm Pappas Ventures, before moving into the technology sector with OpenSite Technologies and Siebel Ventures. Chris then returned to life sciences and joined the leadership team at the Drug Safety Alliance in 2002, as vice president of corporate development.
In 2003, Mr. Porter co-founded Morrisville-based clinical research organization Clinipace, where he served as president and chief operating officer, as well as general counsel and corporate secretary for his entire 14 year tenure, during which Clinipace grew to more than 800 employees in 30 countries. In addition to his work at the Forrest Firm, Chris consults with pharmaceutical, pharma services, and technology companies.
Chris Porter earned a bachelor of arts degree in journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1992. He completed dual degrees—a master’s degree in business administration and a juris doctor degree—in 1998 from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of North Carolina School of Law.
Mr. Porter is licensed to practice law in the state of North Carolina.
