jamesBusiness North Carolina magazine has recognized Forrest Firm founder and principal attorney James R. Forrest as the category winner for business law in its annual Legal Elite listing of the top attorneys in the Tar Heel State.

For the fifth consecutive year, the magazine has named Forrest to its list of the top lawyers in North Carolina. In the December 2015 issue recognizing the 2016 Legal Elite, Forrest has earned category winner recognition for the first time.

For its annual ranking of the best practicing lawyers in the state, Business North Carolina conducted a peer nomination survey with more than 20,000 N.C. attorneys. Those receiving the most votes comprise the Legal Elite – less than three percent of the thousands of attorneys practicing in the state. The magazine then names category winners, also based on the peer nomination methodology, in various practice areas of the law, including business, intellectual property, and more.

According to Business North Carolina magazine, the Legal Elite represents “the lawyers their peers think are the best at what they do.” The magazine places a premium on listing the best attorneys—not necessarily the best-known or most influential—as a measurement of their legal expertise and proficiency in the law.

“I’ve always said that as a practicing lawyer, there is simply no greater reward than recognition from your peers,” said Forrest. “The longer I practice law, the greater respect I have for my fellow attorneys, which makes this honor quite humbling for me. It’s truly a recognition for the entire team at the Forrest Firm, people committed to bringing the best in legal solutions and client service to companies and executives across our state.”

Founded in January 2011, the Forrest Firm serves businesses in the Triangle area, as well as clients based in Charlotte, Wilmington, and other regions of North Carolina. The firm’s diverse client roster includes a host of startups and mature companies in sectors key to the Tar Heel State’s economic performance, including information technology, healthcare, research, manufacturing, and logistics.

Core practice areas of the Forrest Firm include company formation, venture financings, employment law, mergers and acquisitions, commercial real estate, and contract negotiation. In the five years since its founding, the Forrest Firm has grown to include the services of eight attorneys.

Jeff Wolfe, Jesse Jones, John Lindsey, and founder James Forrest practice in the area of general business law. Jeff Fisher and Jessica Elliott focus on commercial and residential real estate, while Mimi Soule specializes in employment law. Recently added estate attorney Cory Howes offers estate planning and administration services to entrepreneurs and executives from the firm’s growing roster of corporate clients.
