Forrest Firm Sponsors Wilmington’s Cucalorus Festival
October 25, 2018
The festival will run from November 7 – 11 at multiple venues across the Port City. What started in the 1990s as an independent film festival has grown to feature music, dance, art, and in recent years special programs for startups, businesses and entrepreneurs. With such a diversity of local, national and international talent, it’s no wonder that MovieMaker magazine has named Cucalorus “One of the Coolest Film Festivals in the World” for three years in a row.
Indie rock legends and North Carolina natives Superchunk kick off the festival Wednesday evening with a performance at the Brooklyn Arts Center. Other programs include the 10×10 Challenge Screening, which pairs 10 entrepreneurs with 10 filmmakers to create promotional startup videos in just five days; Rocket Pitch, where startups go head-to-head in 90-second presentations; and a panel on the Blockchain Revolution featuring Forbes columnist Charlie Fink.
Cucalorus caters to tech buffs as well as film buffs; the festival has special areas dedicated to fintech (financial technology), healthtech (health technology), and gigtech, an exploration of artificial intelligence and next-generation cloud services . Business owners will enjoy the variety of workshops and panels on offer from some of the foremost entrepreneurs and CEOs in our region and the country.
“The Cucalorus Festival couldn’t have come at a better time in the wake of Hurricane Florence” said Forrest Firm attorney Andy Jones. “Wilmington is our home, and people need to know that not only are we open for business, but that we are ready to be the best destination for those looking to gather at the intersection of entertainment and business, and the beach.”
Cucalorus is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports emerging artists through their annual festival, community engagement program and summer camp for teen filmmakers. Since 1994, it has been an invaluable resource for the Wilmington community and the many talented artists and entrepreneurs who live there.
