Forrest Firm Named to Inaugural RealLeaders 100 Top Impact Companies

Fresh off a recertification of its certified B corporation status, the Forrest Firm has earned selection to the inaugural listing of the 100 Top Impact Companies from RealLeaders magazine.

The RealLeaders 100 Top Impact Companies listing is a collaboration of the magazine—itself a B corp—and a collection of like-minded strategic partners, including Asheville’s Big Path Capital, B Lab, Bain Capital, KPMG, and national law firm Mintz Levin. The idea behind the RealLeaders 100 is to showcase companies that are a force for good in the world, not just singularly focused on their own bottom-line earnings.

B Lab, the Pennsylvania-based non-profit behind the popular B corp certification, was charged with measuring companies around the nation with regard to their social responsibility and environmental sustainability. In addition to these factors, RealLeaders examined growth and scale of the applicant companies. The resulting formula for scoring all of the companies under consideration thus became Revenue x Growth Rate x B Impact Assessment.

The Forrest Firm earned initial B corp certification in the spring of 2016 and recently completed a more rigorous biannual recertification process with B Lab in 2018. The firm has offices across North Carolina: Raleigh, Durham, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Wilmington, Charlotte, and Asheville, and has grown to over 50 people since its inception in 2011.

The Forrest Firm is currently the only law firm in the state of North Carolina to operate as a B corp.  Other North Carolina companies that are B corporations include Dewey’s Bakery, SJF Ventures, Vital Plan, Riley Life Logistics, Sinnovatek, Spotlight Solar, HQ Raleigh and the Redwoods Group.

“Inclusion in the inaugural RealLeaders list of 100 Top Impact Companies is a proud moment for us as a firm,” said founder James Forrest. “Our team is unified in its pursuit of our mission: treating clients the way we would want to be treated ourselves, creating and maintaining sustainable working environments for legal professionals, and supporting the communities where we live and work through service and philanthropy. We are grateful for and humbled by our inclusion, and this will fuel us to work even harder to grow with impact.”
