May 8, 2017
Startup Magnolia House takes Grand Prize, while Partners for Youth Opportunity, LIFE Skills Foundation also recognized
May 8, 2017 (DURHAM, NC) The Forrest Firm, P.C., a North Carolina certified B Corporation and law firm focused on helping entrepreneurs and executives achieve sustainable growth, is proud to announce the winners of its second annual Non-Profit Challenge.
Since April 24, the firm and a panel of celebrity client judges have evaluated entries for the Non-Profit Challenge, an initiative that will see the Forrest Firm provide pro bono legal services to the winners, along with other prizes offered by Forrest Firm clients and partners. Multiple social entrepreneurs and non-profit leadership teams submitted compelling entries for the contest, where they explained their respective missions and summarized their business plans and program offerings.
The judges have selected three non-profit organizations as winners, with one non-profit selected as the Non-Profit Challenge Grand Prize Winner. All three winners receive pro bono legal services from the Forrest Firm, while the grand prize winner also receives marketing consultation from Raleigh digital marketing agency Walk West, as well as opportunity for trial co-working space at Durham’s ReCity Network social impact hub.
Grand Prize Winner: Magnolia House, a Durham startup founded by Ted and Teri Anne Darby, focused on transitional housing for families with young children.
Winner: Partners for Youth Opportunity, a new entity formed by the 2014 merger of YO: Durham and Partners for Youth, a pair of Bull City organizations that joined forces to offer comprehensive services to at-risk youth.
Winner: LIFE Skills Foundation, also of Durham, provides transitional services to youths aged 15-24 who are part of the county’s foster care system or who have “aged out” of the system.
“Congratulations to Magnolia House, Partners for Youth Opportunity, and LIFE Skills Foundation, three game-changers for at-risk youth in the Triangle,” said James Forrest, founder and principal attorney at the Forrest Firm. “We are honored to work with each of these groups and humbled by their commitment to their respective missions, as they have taken on some of the heavy lifting needed to solve some of society’s most pressing social problems. The Forrest Firm, Walk West, and ReCity Network are proud to serve those who serve others.”
