Forrest Firm Announces Addition of Attorney Brian Bernhardt

The Forrest Firm, a North Carolina-based business law firm and certified B Corporation, announces the addition of Brian Bernhardt, an attorney with over 20 years’ experience in tax and litigation matters, to the firm’s Charlotte office.
The Forrest Firm is a provider of legal services to businesses, non-profits, entrepreneurs, and individuals. Core practice areas include corporate transactions, financings and capital raises, commercial real estate, intellectual property, employment law, banking and financial services, mergers and acquisitions, estate planning and administration, and litigation.
At the Forrest Firm, Brian advises businesses, non-profit organizations, and individuals on a range of tax and governance matters, with an emphasis on IRS tax controversies and tax litigation. He helps clients handle audits, appeals, refund claims, and other administrative matters before the IRS, as well as providing tax and governance advice to non-profit organizations. Brian is also a litigator with experience in the U.S. Tax Court, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, the U.S. District Courts, and in North Carolina State Court.
Before coming to the Forrest Firm, Brian was a Partner at Milazzo Webb Law in Charlotte and McGuireWoods in Richmond, Virginia, where he focused his practice on IRS tax controversies, Federal tax litigation, and representing non-profit organizations. He also worked as a tax attorney at Raymond & Prokop, Sutherland, Asbill & Brennan (now Eversheds Sutherland), and with the IRS Office of Chief Counsel in its Detroit District Counsel Office. Brian also was a Shareholder at Bernhardt and Strawser, where he represented creditors throughout North Carolina in all types of consumer and commercial collection matters.
Brian earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Brown University and his Juris Doctor, with honors, from The University of Michigan Law School, where he served as the Managing Articles Editor of The University of Michigan Journal of Law Reform. Brian currently serves as vice chair of the Mecklenburg County Bar Tax Section.
