Attorneys Swinson and LaCivita Join Forrest Firm

Forrest Firm, a North Carolina-based business law firm and a certified B Corporation, announces the addition of two attorneys to the Firm’s practice– Anthony LaCivita and Gwynn Swinson. Anthony, who is licensed to practice law in the State of New York, will be based in Greenwich, CT and New York, NY while Gwynn will practice in the Triangle out of the Firm’s Durham office. LaCivita widens the Firm’s geographic footprint while Swinson adds depth to the Firm’s diversity and inclusion initiatives in addition to her legal expertise.

A prominent North Carolina leader with a career spanning nearly 45 years, Gwynn Swinson has served in a number of high-profile public service roles such as Cabinet Secretary overseeing the North Carolina Department of Administration, Special Deputy Attorney General for the North Carolina Department of Justice, and Assistant Branch Director for the Commercial Litigation Branch, Civil Division, at the US Department of Justice. Additionally, Gwynn boasts deep experience in the field of economic development as well as fiscal responsibility, with notable accomplishments such as leading the NC Utility Savings Initiative, which saved the State of North Carolina at least $1 million in energy costs.
In her of-counsel role with the Firm, Gwynn adds her unique perspective and depth to the Employment Law Practice Group. “Gwynn’s dedication to public service and deep expertise will serve Forrest Firm clients well,” said James Forrest, “We’re equally as excited for Gwynn to call upon her experience as an advocate to minority populations to help lead diversity and inclusion initiatives within the Firm.”
Gwynn holds a J.D. from Antioch School of Law, now UDC School of Law and an LLM from Duke University. North Carolina A&T State University honored Gwynn by awarding her an Honorary Doctorate in Humanities.
Anthony joins the Firm with over 35 years of experience as an attorney in the global capital markets and financial services industry. Most recently, he was a Managing Director with Patomak Global Partners, a Washington, D.C. based regulatory compliance consulting firm, providing strategic regulatory advice, risk management and compliance consulting and regulatory enforcement and litigation support to clients in the financial services industry and other corporations. Previously, he served in senior legal, compliance and management roles at Credit Suisse Securities in New York and in London, and Nomura Securities International, where he was General Counsel of the firm’s registered investment advisers in the U.S. Anthony was General Counsel of the Capital Markets Group of GE Capital, including its registered U.S. broker-dealer and regulated investment firm in London. Anthony started his career as a corporate finance associate at Brown & Wood in New York, which is now a part of Sidley Austin LLP. He has also served on the Board of Directors of a global corporate housing – extended stay service provider and a not-for-profit corporation responsible for the renovation of a historical property in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Anthony received a Bachelor of Arts with Distinction from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia, and a Juris Doctor from The University’s School of Law.
In his role as an of-counsel attorney at the Forrest Firm, Anthony will draw from a deep well of experience as an attorney, compliance officer and advisor, a regulatory supervisor in fixed income sales and trading, a portfolio manager of a pool of distressed assets and special situations investments, and as a business manager and registered representative and principal of FINRA regulated firms, to advise corporate and financial services clients in matters involving securities laws and regulations and corporate finance and capital markets activities.
Anthony is licensed to practice law in the State of New York, and is not currently licensed in North Carolina.
