October 16, 2017 (Wilmington, NC) The Forrest Firm, a North Carolina-based business law firm and certified B Corporation, announces the addition of attorney Matthew Adams to its Wilmington office.
Now in its seventh year, the Forrest Firm is a provider of corporate legal services to entrepreneurs, investors, and executives. The firm works in multiple areas relevant to businesses at every stage of their life cycles. Core practice areas include business formation, angel and venture financings, intellectual property, commercial real estate, employment, mergers and acquisitions, estate planning, tax, contract negotiation, and dispute resolution.
Attorney Matthew Adams arrives at the Forrest Firm after practicing as a business and estate planning attorney for the last 13 years in multiple markets across the state of North Carolina, including the Cape Fear region, the Sandhills, and the Triangle.
In his new role at the firm, Mr. Adams will serve entrepreneurs and executives in the Cape Fear region at the firm’s downtown Wilmington office alongside attorney Andrew Jones and legal assistant Kay Ansley. He will provide counsel in multiple areas of corporate law, including taxation (IRS appeals and Tax Court matters), contracts, employment law, mergers and acquisitions, and general corporate compliance and risk management policies. In addition, Mr. Adams focuses his practice on matters of estate planning and administration, with special emphasis on trust-based plans.
Mr. Adams spent the last five years heading the Law Firm of Matthew D. Adams, PLLC, also in Wilmington. There, he served as corporate and tax counsel to businesses in the area, as well as trustee for multiple special needs and general trusts for estate planning clients.
Mr. Adams began his legal career in 2004 as a staff attorney and tax associate at the Raleigh office of North Carolina accounting and consulting firm Dixon Hughes PLLC. He entered private practice of the law in 2005, joining the Aberdeen firm of Webb & Graves, PLLC, developing his practice in the areas of corporate taxation and estate planning, and trust administration.
In 2007, Mr. Adams joined the Farrell Law Group in Raleigh, expanding his corporate practice to include corporate formations and securities. In 2008, he left Raleigh for Wilmington, working in corporate taxation and estate planning as a partner at James S. Price and Associates. In 2010, Mr. Adams moved to the Wilmington firm of Hodges & Coxe PC to further expand his corporate practice into areas such as corporate compliance and employment law.
Matthew Adams earned his juris doctor degree in 2004 from the North Carolina Central University School of Law in Durham. He is a 1998 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, earning a bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology and sports science.
Mr. Adams is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association. He is licensed to practice before the United States Tax Court, the United States Bankruptcy Court, and the Federal District Court for the East District of North Carolina.
“The Forrest Firm is making a unique mark on the legal landscape of North Carolina, providing fresh opportunities for businesses and their owners to grow and protect what’s most important to them,” said Adams. “With the firm’s B corp focus areas of client-centered models for service and pricing, as well as sustainable working environments for legal professionals and work that benefits the communities we serve, the opportunity to join the team in Wilmington was something I had to seize. I’m looking forward to showing my clients how my dedication in areas like taxation and estate planning, coupled with the Forrest Firm’s firepower in multiple areas of the law, can help them grow in new and imaginative ways.”
“We welcome the addition of Matthew Adams to the Forrest Firm,” said Jeff Wolfe, managing attorney at the firm. “He brings tremendous acumen and experience in areas like taxation, able to work in the interest of small clients on tax advantages related to entity formation, as well as with clients with more complex needs for compliance with the IRS and state entities. His deep experience in trust formation and administration will also give our executive and entrepreneurial clients more sophisticated legal options for protecting their assets and legacies for generations to come.”
