Matthew Davis joined the Forrest Firm in the summer of 2016. Mr. Davis represents companies across a spectrum of industries on a variety of business issues, specifically in matters of civil litigation and dispute resolution.
As a business attorney and litigator, Mr. Davis counsels clients on risk management and pre-suit dispute resolution, while advancing client interests proactively and with professional zeal when litigation proves strategically wise or unavoidable. He represents clients in North Carolina’s federal and state courts, including the North Carolina Business Court, in matters arising out of breach of contract, fiduciary duties, unfair trade practices, real estate, promissory notes, guarantees, commercial leases, shareholders agreements, and governing documents for closely-held entities. Mr. Davis also has significant experience representing parties in HOA-related litigation and disputes. In his experience, Mr. Davis believes that favorable outcomes depend on thorough preparation, and a sound understanding of his clients’ businesses and goals.
Mr. Davis began practicing law in 2004 as a civil litigator with the Raleigh firm of Young Moore and Henderson. In 2006, Mr. Davis moved to New York City, where he worked with legal services growth company Axiom, before moving to Morgan Stanley. At Morgan Stanley, he negotiated commercial contracts on the bank’s behalf. In 2010, Mr. Davis returned to his hometown of Wilmington, North Carolina, resuming his practice as a litigator at the firm of Marshall, Williams & Gorham. A partner at the firm, Mr. Davis represented an array of businesses and community associations.
Matthew Davis holds a Bachelor of Arts in history from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina School of Law. Mr. Davis is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association and is admitted to practice in all North Carolina State and Federal Courts.
