Attorney Colin Dean joined the Forrest Firm’s Charlotte office in March of 2018. In his role at the firm, Mr. Dean represents clients in a wide variety of commercial litigation matters, with emphasis on business disputes involving contractual duties and non-compete agreements, intellectual property and trade secrets, unfair trade and unfair competition claims, and general business torts. Mr. Dean also advises clients on commercial construction disputes and contract drafting, as well as insurance coverage, premises liability, and products liability matters. Colin has served clients as the lead attorney in all stages of litigation, including discovery and electronically-stored information disputes, depositions, dispositive motion practice, mediation, and trial.
In addition to his work in litigation, Mr. Dean also provides strategic, proactive counsel to companies in heavily-regulated industries, with particular expertise in the financial services and mortgage loan servicing sectors. Mr. Dean regularly guides clients with regard to operational compliance with state and federal regulations, including the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA), and Truth in Lending Act (TILA).
Colin launched his legal career in 2011 as an associate attorney at the Birmingham, Alabama firm of Sirote and Permutt, P. C., working on a variety of business litigation and mortgage banking matters for corporate clients of the firm. In 2014, he moved his practice to Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP, focusing his practice on the litigation, regulatory compliance, risk management, and dispute resolution needs of financial services and mortgage banking industry clients. He moved to Bradley’s Charlotte office in 2015.
Mr. Dean received a bachelor of science degree in public relations in 2008 from the University of Florida in Gainesville. In 2011, he graduated magna cum laude from the University of Alabama School of Law, earning a juris doctor degree.
Colin Dean is licensed to practice law in North Carolina, Florida, and Alabama, and he is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association, the Florida Bar, and the Alabama State Bar. Colin is admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals, 11th Circuit, as well as the U. S. District Courts for the Northern, Middle, and Southern Districts of Alabama, the Middle and Southern Districts of Florida, and the Eastern, Middle, and Western Districts of North Carolina.
Mr. Dean is also active in the Defense Research Institute, an organization for civil litigation attorneys and in-house counsel, serving on the Steering Committee of the DRI Young Lawyers Committee since 2013.
