The Forrest Firm has invested in a platinum sponsorship for the upcoming Techstars Triad Startup Weekend Women’s Edition, as part of its ongoing commitment to support the work of North Carolina entrepreneurs and investors.
Taking place February 9-11, the Techstars Triad Startup Weekend Women’s Edition aims to inspire more female leaders in the startup community. Three Winston-Salem startup organizations will host the event, including Flywheel, a coworking space that has led many entrepreneurial initiatives in Winston-Salem, Hustle Winston-Salem, a startup accelerator focused on women entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs of color, and Synhergyws, an accelerator focused on women entrepreneurs.
The startup weekend is one of 30 such events occurring simultaneously nationwide to launch women-owned businesses. Techstars startup weekends are 54-hour events designed to provide experiential education for both technical and non-technical entrepreneurs. The events follow a certain formula, beginning with Friday night pitches. Throughout the weekend, entrepreneurs work with mentors on brainstorming, business plan creation, and basic prototype creation. The events culminate with Sunday night demonstrations and presentations.
In addition, all participants receive valuable feedback from the judges, comprised of entrepreneurs and other members of the area startup ecosystem.
Rachel Blunk, who recently joined the Forrest Firm’s Greensboro office, will serve as a mentor for entrepreneurs for the February event. “I’m very excited to be participating in this special event,” said Blunk. “The Techstars weekend in Winston-Salem is serving a great purpose—promoting entrepreneurship among women. Too often, we see startup ecosystems with men disproportionately represented. This event is an opportunity to show women in our communities that we embrace their big ideas, we support them, and we are excited about being part of their entrepreneurial journey.”
“We are looking forward to a great event to promote women entrepreneurs in the Triad,” said Jeff Wolfe, managing attorney at the Forrest Firm and member of the firm’s team based in Winston-Salem. “These events almost always yield viable businesses, and it’s a real thrill to be a part of this type of grassroots economic development where we live and work. This weekend will be an opportunity for women to not only have their ideas heard, but work as a team to take a deep dive and see how far they can take the business concept by Sunday night and hopefully beyond.”
