The Forrest Firm, a certified B corporation and law firm dedicated to providing legal services to entrepreneurs and corporate executives, is proud to sponsor the 2017 edition of the North Carolina Bar Association’s Ugly Sweater 5k.
An annual fundraiser of the NCBA, the Ugly Sweater 5k will bring lawyers, legal staff, their families from around the state together with entrants from the general public to support low-wealth entrepreneurs. The race will take place this Saturday, December 9, from 8-10 am at Raleigh’s Dorothea Dix Park.
All proceeds from the Ugly Sweater 5k will benefit NC LEAP, a 501(c)(3) non-profit that provides pro bono legal services to low-wealth entrepreneurs. NC LEAP, founded ten years ago as a project of the NCBA’s Business Law Section, is the only program of its kind in the country. Serving clients statewide, NC LEAP has provided legal representation and education to more than 3,000 Tar Heel small business owners.
The program has recently collaborated with the United States Patent and Trademark Office to expand its services to include a regional Inventor Assistance Program designed to help inventors and small business owners receive assistance from registered patent professionals.
The objective of the Ugly Sweater 5k is threefold: raising funds to break the poverty cycle and provide employment for North Carolinians, as well as boost the North Carolina economy.
Registration for the Ugly Sweater 5k is $22 and includes a T-shirt and water bottle. Food trucks and entertainment will be on-hand at Dorothea Dix Park after the race concludes Saturday morning.
