Now in its seventh year, the Forrest Firm is a provider of corporate legal services to entrepreneurs, investors, and executives. The firm works in multiple areas relevant to businesses at every stage of their life cycles. Core practice areas include business formation, angel and venture financings, intellectual property, commercial real estate, employment, mergers and acquisitions, estate planning, tax, contract negotiation, and dispute resolution.
During her career working as an in-house corporate legal consultant and in private practice, Ms. Blunk has focused on both litigation and strategic transactions.
In her litigation practice at the Forrest Firm, Ms. Blunk handles business disputes regarding matters such as breach of contract, intellectual property infringement, and enforcing and defending non-competes. In her transactional practice, she focuses on the protection and licensing of intellectual property, government contracting, operations, business formation, and employment issues, including independent contractor and employment documents.
Ms. Blunk began her career in business and law as an educational consultant at Innovation Research and Training (“iRT”), based in Durham while she was teaching upper elementary at a Durham school. When she ended her teaching career and transitioned to law in 2011, her work with iRT shifted to legal work, including drafting agreements, and managing the company’s intellectual property assets.
In 2012, Ms. Blunk began practicing at the Charlotte-based business law firm of Wishart Norris PA, in its Burlington location. She served on both the firm’s litigation and commercial teams for three years. In 2015, she moved her practice to the Greensboro firm of Sharpless and Stavola PA. At Sharpless, she continued the commercial practice she had built while at Wishart Norris, P.A., focusing on the needs of closely-held corporations, including government contracting, business formation, business acquisitions, operations, intellectual property management, and succession planning. In her litigation practice at both firms, Ms. Blunk has represented a variety of clients in disputes related to breach of contract, creditors rights, unfair trade practices, partnership disputes, intellectual property infringement, and covenants not to compete.
Ms. Blunk serves as the chair-elect of the North Carolina Bar Association’s Young Lawyer’s Division, is the treasurer for the board of directors of the Alamance Partnership for Children, and is active with the Junior League. She earned a bachelor of arts degree in classics in 2004 from Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota, with a focus in ancient Greek language. After completing a year of post-baccalaureate study in classics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2005, and teaching for three years at a private school in Durham, she graduated from UNC’s School of Law in 2011 with a juris doctor degree.
Ms. Blunk is licensed to practice law in all North Carolina courts at both the state and federal level. She is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the North Carolina Association of Women Attorneys.
“We are thankful that Rachel Blunk has joined our Triad team at the Forrest Firm, further strengthening our growing Greensboro office,” said Jeff Wolfe, managing attorney at the firm. “She has built a practice with a strategic view to business development and risk management, complemented by several years protecting the interests of her corporate clients in disputes across a broad range of matters that affect even the most careful businesses. We also have great appreciation for Rachel’s leadership efforts, and we look forward to introducing our clients to Rachel—they will enjoy her counsel and business acumen.”
